Trying...

...but failing miserably.

I want to exercise, really I do.

It's been over a year since I've stepped into a gym. I was sidelined during our cycle last year as a precaution. Once we got our positive test, I was discouraged for the first 12 weeks because of my history of pregnancy loss.

At 12 weeks, my OB said I could swim or walk slowly, but to really watch my heart rate and be smart about it.

Honestly, I was so happy to make it to 12 weeks, exercise really wasn't high on my list. I did take evening walks at least 3 times a week, but I didn't want to push it.

Once May hit, bed rest started and that was the end of the small amount of exercise I was doing.

In September, at my 6 week postpartum appointment, I was cleared to resume all activities...including exercise.

I've yet to do it.

All kinds of excuses have popped into my head. "The babies aren't on a schedule yet.", "I don't have time." "Sleep ranks higher, right now." "I don't want to leave the babies in childcare.", "I'm exhausted."

The truth is I'm scared.

Even with 57 pounds gone from my frame, hardly any of my pre-baby clothes fit. The baby weight may be gone, but my body is VERY different. I need to go, because I really miss the mental lift I would get from exercising.

*sigh*

Maybe tomorrow.

  1. Oh sweetie, it's really hard. Can you try maybe setting yourself more achievable goals? Say for example you do stairs up and down quickly five times a day to get back into the aerobic exercise a bit?

  2. Oh, it was terribly hard for me to get back into it. Especially with the lack of sleep. But, DH and I worked out a schedule where I could run after the baby went to bed, but early enough that it wasn't keeping me awake when I was done. (I started running because it was free. No membership. ;))

I started with the couch to 5K program and I finished my training and I'm planning on running a race in less than 2 weeks from now. The program was really easy for me to be okay with. Especially to start. Only 1 or 2 minutes of running coupled with the same of walking. It was very much achievable for me.

Sorry for the novel on that. :) I do want you to know that you aren't alone. It was so hard for me to get motivated with out sleep. So. Hard.

  3. As someone who really got INTO running in the past year, I'm going to tell you to take your time. I didn't start exercising for real until O was sleeping through the night. Which for us was at 18 months. It was only then I found I had just a LITTLE extra energy in order to work out.

    Now it's my saving grace.

A little at a time, sweetie. You'll get back into it - just hard right now when I'm sure you're still up overnight.

    xoxo

  4. If you have a wii some of those fitness games (like sports resport or EA sports active) are a good way to ease into things. Or perhaps a fun dvd like zumba or something like that. Either could let you do something at home at your own pace.

  5. Yeah that whole sleeping thing, its kinda super important. Until you are getting some decent sleep, don't over do it.

And my body is completely different too. I could get back into my clothes but everything fit completely different.

  6. I hear ya!
I hate the gym. I won a free month membership at our local gym at our church raffle. I've only gone 3 times and I'm already done with it. I'll keep going, just to try and get some of my weight off before cycling again.

Exercise sucks....particularly when you're already exhausted.
