Big Boy's weight this week...
8 pounds, 3 ounces!!!
He gained almost a pound in a week! Now, he had a 4 ounce bottle about a half hour before the appointment, I couldn't hold him off, he was hungry...but he definitely put on some good weight.
Doctor was happy, said to keep doing what we're doing.
That made this Momma happy and allowed her to relax a little. I think the LC's and doctor were right, he just was working too hard trying to nurse all day long, and needed to not expend as many calories as he was taking in.
Over the last week, Big Boy has been such a happy baby. Unless he's really hungry, he hasn't really fussed at all. Seeing smiles and hearing him coo have really made me feel like we've made the best choice at this point. And, I still nurse him at least once a day, so I have a little of that special time, too.
Pumping is going better, but I don't know if I'll ever pump enough for him to get full bottles of breast milk. I'm going to continue to try for that goal, but I realize now that either way he'll be okay.
What's important is that he's getting some breast milk, he's happy, and he's growing.
I can't ask for much more than that.
That is fantastic, I'm glad he is doing so well.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are absolutely right he is happy, healthy, growing and that is what matters!!
Woohoo! He is getting to be such a big boy. Congrats momma. And you are right, he'll be fine no matter what he is eating. Some breastmilk is better than none and even if you have to go to full formula, it will be OK.
ReplyDeleteYay!! So nice to have some reassurance that you made the right/best decision! Very happy for you.
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you! That is absolutely FANTASTIC news!! Even if you take 4 oz off for the 4 oz he drank, that's still 7'15" which is great gain for one week! Awesome, awesome, awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat news!!!! I want pictures :) They must be getting so squishy...awww
ReplyDeleteYAY! He's a growing boy!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! And I admire your constant persistence to get him some breast milk. I am the type of person who believes that each mother should make her own decision on the matter and not be bullied into breast milk or formula, and it is admirable to stick to whatever decision you make. Sounds like what you are doing is working great. YAY for growing boys. :)
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad he is doing well! Go Big Boy! Sometimes a Mommy has to put aside her own wishes for the good of her child...I know that was hard for you, but you DID it! You figured out the best for your boy...and a baby could not ask for a better loving Momma!
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad he's putting on weight and that you guys are still managing to have some special time!
ReplyDeleteHey there!
ReplyDeleteI am really happy to hear that the formula is working for you! I just came across an interesting article which suggests that formula in fact is not bad. Neither is it to stop breastfeeding. The Mommy-Mafia tries to judge everyone but the results of different studies are inconclusive as to whether it is the best thing to only breastfeed your children.
Just wanted to leave this comment because mommy guilt does not help you or your baby. There most likely is no "right" thing to do.
Your love and support are the most valuable gifts to him. Most likely the question of breast milk or not will not matter some years down the road.
Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteHoping things keep getting better and better!
Glad things are looking up. Good Luck!
