Spring Shed ~ Week 2 & 3

This is Week 3 for "Spring Shed", but I never managed to get to my computer last week to post Week 2.

Oops!  Guess I'll have to combine the two weeks into one post...

For Week 2, it was my birthday week & the start of Easter weekend.  Needless to say, I didn't do very well with my goals for Week 2.

Week 3 has been better.

Let's take a look:

1. Eat & Prepare Healthier Meals For My Family
Week 2, this was an epic fail!  Everyday of that week at least 2 members in my family were ill.  We had many nights where soup was dinner, or M. and I just made do with whatever was left in the fridge.  Once Friday rolled around, everyone was healthy, but it was my birthday.  M. brought home takeout, complete with a birthday cake.

Week 3, found me back on the wagon.  We only ate out once this week, as a celebration for Miss O. getting straight "A"'s on her report card.  I was pleased when I got home & entered my dinner into MyFitnessPal, that I had made smart decisions, and even stayed within my calorie goal that day.

2. Exercise Consistently At Least 3 Times a Week
I managed to get to the gym twice in Week 2.  It was tough with the illness in the house!

Week 3 found me achieving my goal, hitting the gym 3 times, taking 2 classes and fitting 2 runs in.  I have decided to throw my hat in the ring for the sprint triathlon in May, even though I only have about 5 weeks to train.  Wish me luck!

4. Lose 1 To 2 Pounds A Week
Week 3 brought a .4 of a pound loss.  Considering I didn't lose in Week 2, in fact I was up a pound, I'm happy with that loss.  Hoping to see the scale move more in the next few weeks!

I've been working on losing weight since September.  I'm officially down 21 pounds, and am losing slow & steady.  This is a lifestyle change for me.

5. Keep Up With Housework & Organization
Sad to say that in Week 2 & 3, I didn't get very far with this.  While I did keep up with laundry, dishes, the daily chores, I haven't had a chance to really try to organize any of our trouble spaces.

So, that's how Week 2 & 3 of Spring Shed went for me.

  1. Ha, I'm glad I'm not the only one combining Spring Shed weeks in one post! I also had a sick kid at home this week (and hubby away on business), so didn't get much done either. Happy belated birthday and hope to see you next Friday for the 4th week of Spring Shed!

  2. Welcome back and happy belated birthday! Your birthday and Easter are two totally understandable reasons to have not kept as focused on your goals. Those events trip me up too. But I know you can and will get back on track and in many ways have already. I am so impressed about you doing the sprint Triathalon! Please share about your experience training for it, as I want to do one someday. See you Friday, if not before! Have a great week!

  3. You are so right, it is a lifestyle change, slow and steady is good. And great motivation to sign up for a race, that's a smart move. Easter and Birthday, well, don't be too hard on yourself, as they both are events of food and cake, it's tradition. Happy belated birthday!

  4. Okay, take 2!
First - Wow on the exercise and triatholon training commitment!
Second - some of the things that help me with meal planning: I like to keep lots of pre-cooked meat in the freezer. I'll cook 10-20# of beef or chicken (in the crockpot!) at a time, and then freeze them in single meal portions. Then on nights where I forgot to plan a meal, or forgot to thaw something out, I can pull one of those out, defrost it in about 5 minutes, and make tacos, or fajitas, or add it to pasta for a nice easy, relatively healthy meal! Also, anytime I'm making an "assembled" meal, like baked ziti, or macaroni and cheese, for example, I'll try to make 2. Then I either have one for later, or one to give away to somebody!
Organizing - I struggle with this a lot, especially with papers - they seem to grow on their own! So I finally invested a little bit of money (like $20) in something cute and fun that I can leave out on the counter where it's easy to sort papers as they come in. I bought a file box at Target (Greendog brand, I think? - SO cute, I'll tweet a pic if you want!), and cute manila folders that matched. I have a "medical" folder, a "school" folder, and a couple of other random ones - one for receipt-y type things. The most important one for me is "NEED ATTENTION," which I'm going to try to go through at least once a week to take care of outstanding items. (Like this week included book orders for school and some checks to deposit!) It's definitely cutting down on my counter clutter!
    Hope something here helps!
