Packing, Packing, Packing

Whine, whine, whine.

I feel like that's all I ever do when I try to post around here.

A million blog posts run through my head, and yet, I never find the time to sit down and type any out.

And when I do?  I always feel like I have to apologize for not posting.

It's weird.  I know that.

Oh, well.

I'm going crazy this week.

We leave on Friday for our very first family vacation that involves transportation other than a minivan.

I'm desperately trying to pack for 5 people into 3 suitcases and 2 carry on's.

It is near impossible.

Especially when 2 of those people are under two and may or may not need multiple outfits a day.

And diapers.  Oh, the diapers!

I figure I better plan on 5 to 8 diapers a day/per twin.  We'll be gone for 6 days.  So, I need to bring at least 96 diapers, not counting swim diapers.

It's enough to make your head explode.

If that isn't enough, Big Boy started running a fever Friday night.  By Monday morning, he wasn't eating, drinking, or moving much.  Off to the doctor we went, and came home with the diagnosis of an ear infection and a script for an antibiotic.

Praying that the ear will be mostly healed before we take off Friday afternoon.

Other than the craziness of trying to make everything fit & worrying about sick children, I'm getting really excited for the trip.  It's the first time our little family of 5 will be going somewhere on vacation where it's just us! No family or friends to help out, just M. and I.

Not only that, but we're going to the happiest place on Earth, the Land of the Mouse! ;)

It was a birthday gift for Miss O. and she's done really well waiting since March without constantly saying, "How much longer until we go on vacation?".

We might be going crazy, but at least we'll have fun getting there!

Any tips on packing?  Navigating a big place with a double stroller?

Wish us luck!

  1. Best advice I can give you ... Don't try to pack enough diapers/wipes for the entire trip. Pack enough to get you there then run to WalMart/Target and buy what you need. It will free up space in your suitcase. Do the same thing with swim diapers ... anything else that you can buy when you get there ... do it, rather than toting it back and forth. Sunscreen, lotions, shampoo, razors, etc...
Another tip ... rather than trying to pack multiple outfits for every kid and worrying about not having enough, plan to take an hour one day and do laundry. The hotel you are staying in may offer a laundry room for guests use. If not I'm sure you will find one close by where, for a small amount, you can toss in a couple loads of laundry and your packing 1/2 what you need, but having enough to get your through the entire week.
I KNOW ... the last thing you want to do on vacation is laundry but think about it this way ... pack less, leaving extra space in your luggage to bring back all those souvenirs.
OH .. and have an awesome trip. Tell the Mouse I said HI!!!

  2. How exiting. Hubs and I just did Seaworld with just us and it was so much fun. While it was exhausting, it was kind of a nice way to reiterate what makes us such a great team with the kids and in life.

I think the only advice I have is to go slow, don't rush and give yourself extra time for everything. It's more about the experience then anything else and since it was a gift for Miss O, maybe she gets to do two of her favorite things one with each of you alone. Oh and take LOTS OF PICS.

Have so much fun. Can't wait to hear all about it.

  3. I would say plan on doing laundry half way through the week. I like that idea about packing enough diapers to get you there. Would your travel agent by any chance give you extra tickets for luggage for the little ones? Ours offered to do that free of charge when we thought we were taking the boys. I was also going to send stuff down (toys, diapers, food, etc.) before we got there. As for the strollers you can get two singles. It was a thought I was kicking around. I ended up taking a backpack with E because we needed sunscreen, water and sweat shirts. You still end up lugging stuff. At least with the strollers you can put stuff underneath. We also planned on coming back to the hotel for naps. And while they were napping one of us would take E to the pool or stay in the park with her. I think if you are flexible with getting parks done you will be ok. We didn't get to do everything but still did a lot of stuff on E's list. We also had a day where we just hung out at the pool in the afternoon and went back to the park at night. If you are staying in a Disney resort they are super helpful with children. Good luck and have fun! I can't wait to hear all about it!

  5. oh, how fun!

I agree with the previous diaper comment. I normally pack enough to get us there and maybe for one more day. Then, I buy more once I'm there.
